Yum yum yum! Tim Burton successfully zaps me back in time to the world of make-belief, creating a world where whipped cream is really whipped and makes sense, and where rivers are as they should be; made of chocolate!
Burton's remake provides Willy Wonka with more depth and offers an explanation for the eccentricities of Mr. Wonka,though at times the interpretation is excessive, but the film does a better job than the book in creating a wholesome character. The book was primarily concerned with describing Wonka's weird world and did not work on providing readers with answers for why. The film's interpretation is eerie yet humorous , and is uniquely Burton. In the film Burton pads violence with humor, but he uses just enough violence to shock and make audiences contemplate.
The film is didactic about family values and morals in life. Not only does it interpret Roald Dahl's book but it also adds an extra ending, leaving hearts warm and fuzzy; like drinking a cup of warm hot chocolate.
